SICIS, the Milan design house that specializes in bringing Italian mosaic art into all forms of interior design, has astonished again with its previews of SICIS NEXT ART, to be unveiled at the Salone Internazionale Del Mobile in Milan, April 14 - 19, 2010. SICIS NEXT ART's first artist is Carla Tolomeo, who has combined two of Italy's oldest artisan techniques, mosaics and fabric art, in her ethereal chair designs.
Tolomeo is a well-known painter and sculptor, whose sculptural objects take the form of chairs and settees and theater sets and other works some would consider to be design. Her work exemplifies that there is no art versus design, no 'fine line' between art and design, but that art and design are one.
As well, Tolomeo carries out just what the great SICIS Mosaics Factory desired for its SICIS NEXT ART program: the exquisite blending of mosaics into other artistic forms. "Like colorful vibrant brushstrokes, the mosaic tesserae make their statement, unleashing their souls through iconic sculptures that transcend classic design into the surreal and metaphysical."
Parfait Amour (love parfait or perfect love: "parfait" is the French word for perfect, but it is also used for for the name of a tall, dreamy dessert), the perfect name for Tolomeo's divine love chair that she endows with rich textiles, including a mosaic woven textile.
