Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon’s Innovative Charity Site

Have you heard of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon? No? Well, if you haven't, it's a trivia game from the 1990's that works like this: a group of players tries to connect any film actor in history to Kevin Bacon as quickly as possible and in as few links as possible. Kevin Bacon was smart enough to take advantage of this game and use it for his career in commercials, TV show appearance, etc. This year Kevin has gone a degree further and is using the six degrees concept for a greater good.

Through the SixDegrees.org website, partnered with Network For Good, Kevin encourages you to donate to or raise money for your favorite charity or charities. Hanes, one of the sites other partners, is providing six matching $10,000 grants to the top 6 fundraisers. "Through this web site, you can support your favorite charities by donating or creating fundraising badges - as well as check out the favorite causes of other people, including celebrities. It's social networking with a social conscience." Hanes is also providing 6-degree t-shirts on their website.

So buy a SixDegree Hanes t-shirt, build a fundraising badge to put on your website or click on Network For Good and donate to any charity of your choice. By the way you can get a t-shirt for free from Hanes when you get six friends and family members to donate to your favorite cause with a badge.

How's this charitable site different from the others? Well, other then the social networking there is also the tax convenience. The SixDegrees partner Network for Good keeps your donations on record under one account, your account, so that it is easy for you to go back to come tax time.

Or if you already know how the game is played but aren't a very good player, you're in luck. The Oracle of Bacon at Virginia website allows you to cheat your way through the game. How? This innovative website links the degrees for you. All you need to do is type in your actors name and in a few seconds your actor's degrees of separation to Kevin Bacon pop up on the screen with details of how they're linked.
