Slide Away On The Lexus Hoverboard

There is no such thing as impossible, according to Lexus.

Engineers with the popular high-end car company in Japan are making the Back to the Future Part II (1989) movie a true reality as they have invented a very unique hoverboard.

Called Slide, the hoverboard is slick and stylish in every sense – just like the cars Lexus makes.

Lexus claims that they have invented “the first and only real hoverboard.”

Back To The Future We Go

The team’s engineers indicate that Slide utilizes magnetic levitation through superconductors that are fueled by liquid nitrogen and high-powered magnets. These are the ingredients that makes Slide actually move in the air.

"It’s the perfect example of the amazing things that can be achieved when you combine technology, design and imagination,” says Mark Templin, who is the VP of Lexus International.

Templin adds, “At Lexus we constantly challenge ourselves and our partners to push the boundaries of what is possible. That determination, combined with our passion and expertise for design and innovation, is what led us to take on the hoverboard project.”

The company has highlighted Slide on its website as part of its “Amazing in Motion” campaign. On their promotional page they provide a video where a skater jumps off a normal skateboard and moves towards Slide. In the video the board has smoke pouring out of its sides.  And it all looks good .

However, one downside with the video is that the skater  never ends up riding Slide. With this, Lexus has issued a statement indicating that more videos will be posted.

The Mother Of All Hoverboards?

Lexus has developed a prototype of Slide and it will be a few years when it actually launches on the market. The company has confirmed that their invention is able to carry a person and it levitates itself seamlessly off the ground.

The board and overall design mirrors that of a Lexus car. Its signature grill-look exemplifies high-tech and innovation, and its connection with nature and flight, if you will, is represented through well-crafted bamboo, where a person’s feet is formly planted. The company has not yet indicated how high the board will levitate and the distance it will travel.
Lexus has made no secret that they want to be the first in offering the best hoverboard on the market. There are a number of companies at present who have working prototypes of hoverboards, so Lexus wants to win the hoverboard race.

The company has not indicated how much Slide will cost. However it is safe to assume that this device will be costly. But as demand grows and technology advances the cost will eventually become more affordable over time.

Even if Slide is pricey there’s no doubt that there will be a huge surge of people who will buy them so they can lay claim to being a part of history. As well, when it becomes more affordable, we should see our sidewalks and skate-parks filled with people utilizing Slide to get around.

So will this be the first real, rideable hoverboard?

Yes, of course. Lexus has the money, the technology and the brainpower to take this to the market first before anyone.

For now Back to the Future fans are on standby and are ready to purchase Slide.

Slide will simply be “Amazing in Motion.”
