Shake Up The World With Creepy Snow Globes

Artists Walter Martin and Paloma Munoz construct eerie detailed artistic scenes hidden inside of snow globes.

Traditional snow globes house relaxing winter scenes of Evergreen trees, snow-capped houses and horse drawn carriages. However, these snow globes tell a different story.

These two artists have been working together since 1993. They sculpt miniature figures set in snowy outside scenes that depict sometimes horrible situations. Each snow globe tells a story and it’s up to the viewer to fill in the blanks of those stories. Some of these miniature people seem trapped in a fairy-tale like story.

The snow globes are part of their Travelers series. They are a limited edition as only 250 signed snow globes were made. As for the price of one of these, searching around on the Internet shows they are sold for $750.

[Images of Snow Globes have been recently removed at the request of the artists. You can see them at martin-munoz.com ]

Wow, I wish I had received one of these snow globes when I was younger. I think if I had gotten one of these, I would have been too afraid to leave my room. I love the detailed and haunting scenes. These snow globes hold cherished memories you aren’t likely to forget any time soon. And with Christmas in July rapidly approaching, these would make a great addition to any party. Provided that you have $750 to spend.

What do you think? Would you buy one of these?

Awesome

Whats with the negative comments? These would make awesome snow globes. I like the idea a lot. These are obviously just drawings of concepts and not actual snow globes (it's quite obvious when you study the detail) But it's a really neat concept.

And no, I'm not one to go around saying OMG PHOTOSHOP! but this one is way too blatantly obvious. They're drawings.

They're Real!

If you don't think they are, go here: http://inventorspot.com/articles/snow_globes_14655

This site takes a while to load but it's worth it. There are a lot of strange/cool things there. Once it totally loads, scroll down a little bit past half-way down the page...you'll see the snowglobes and prints and info about the artists.

You know whenever I think something isn't real I don't bother leaving nasty comments, I just go check it out. Isn't GOOGLE grand!

Focus, people!

Photoshop whiners... geez! I'm assuming you're bombarding Nissan with emails over their cool Rogue commercial because it's "not real"? Visit the artists' website and note that they display their art at public exhibits. See the photos - better yet, attend their upcoming exhibit running at NY's George Adams Gallery from July 10.

everybody's right

it doesn't take much research to figure out; they are plenty real but might also have digital enhancement. and not all these photos are necessarily of the snowglobes. it looks to me like some of their exhibits are just of the photos, which are not necessarily intended to be accurate representations of actual globes, while other exhibits are the actual globes.

I saw them on display (real)

These were shown in a gallery in Chelsea NY a bit back... not sure exactly when or which gallery, but I def saw them. They were beautifully done, with great subtlety of texture and transparency and color. They looked, many of them, unreal, but they are real.......

11-year-old Fargo snowglobes

The movie Fargo did a special release in 1997 that included one of several snowglobes, with murder being the content. This is not a novel idea.

They didn't sculpt the miniature figures -

those are made by Preiser of Germany. Sure, they've added a couple of miniature weapons to some of them, but Preiser makes those too. Maybe I should tell my Dad he's an artist and not a model railroader... Still, the globes are pretty amusing.

Lighten up critics

I think some people here are taking these a little too seriously. These globes tell a story just like books, songs, TV Shows and movies tell stories. Most of us don't take it personally when a filmmaker creates a violent scene so why should we when a snow globe scene does?

Awesome

This is a fantastic idea. I enjoy the negative comments, that means you will make money if you sell them. Controversy sells.

RE: Stupid

"You must be ignorant and have a disturbed mind to create/like such things."

You must be ignorant of what the word ignorant means because you, like, 95% of the rest of the morons who post on the web, don't know how to use the word correctly. Therefore, I'm pretty sure your opinion of just about anything isn't worth the trouble your mother went to to give you up for adoption.

These comments are obviously photoshopped all the reflections and quotations are wrong. Look......look at that one...right there, you can even see the remnants of an old piece of text before they used the clone tool, it shows up at least three times.... and there someone has used a comma more than three times, no one does that....except me...oh snap am I posting "shopped" comments now, oh fuck!

Things

I can't believe that it isn't obvious to everyone by this point that the whole "photoshopped" bit is only ever added anymore to get a rise out of people.
'Shopped!' posters don't care one-way-or-the-other whether the images /have/ been manipulated or not, it's trolling, they're guaranteed an indignant reponse. Just role your eyes, shake your head and say nothing, otherwise you're playing right into it.
