"Win a Free Walk-On Part In A Graphic Novel" was a social media first for a graphic novel. With the published graphic novel, "Facebucks & Dumb F*cks," the authors conducted an open casting call for anyone that knew how to tweet, update their Facebook status or produce a YouTube video - to be considered for a walk-on part.
A lot of has been written about the origins of Facebook and that now infamous dormitory room at Harvard where a ground-breaking idea for a social network first germinated. Subsequent to the book The Accidental Billionaires and before the upcoming movie "The Social Network" had cast the roles of Mark Zuckerberg, I suggested the role of Mark Zuckerberg be filled by a social media guru versus a known actor (such as Mashable's Pete Cashmore, Guy Kawasaki of Garage Technology Ventures or Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV). Sadly, Hollywood chose not to take my advice and Jesse Eisenberg was selected for the role.
Facebucks & Dumb F*cks is the first graphic novel to be written about the world's favorite network. This contest recruited active users of Twitter, Facebook and/or YouTube to win an opportunity to actually be written into the satirical tale, where their "comic" images will be represented in the book, "Facebucks & Dumb F*cks."
The book now available for iPads and eReaders at Apple's iBookstore and for Nooks at Barnes and Noble online store. - priced at $4.99 for downloads. "Facebucks & Dumb F*cks" is a hilarious unfolding of the origins of Facebucks, as could only be told by the Internet’s l'enfant pundit, kidd millennium, the unofficial descendant of the 19th century’s “Yellow Kid.”
The fictional tale tells the story about Z-Man, the self-proclaimed leader of a new social order of over a half billion members! It's how an idea incubated in a dorm room backstabbed its way from the ivory towers of academia to the Silicon Valley in an effort to create one of largest following of people in the world - more sizeable than most nations.
In a world that has been slowly gravitating from hard copy books to e-Books, it is fitting that a graphic novel about Facebook would be introduced via a social media contest of this type. The five (5) lucky Tweeters, Facebook fans and YouTubers were selected in December, 2010. The contest rules were as follows.
