Sony’s Latest Mini PC is Ultra-Fast and Fits in Your Pocket

The new Sony VAIO VGN-UX490N/C offers a ton of features in a very small package. This mini PC is about the size of an average PDA, and it weighs less than 2 pounds. Needless to say, you can carry this thing anywhere. This device will surely eliminate the need to lug around a laptop.

The insides of this UMPC consist of an 1.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Solo U2200 processor, 48 GB of flash memory, and 1 GB of 400 MHz RAM. The processor used in this Sony Vaio mini PC is Intel’s latest processor, so it is sure to be fast and efficient. The 48 GB hard drive is great  for a device of this size. 1 GB of RAM is a decent amount of memory for a mini PC, but the downfall is that it’s not upgradeable in this device.

Touch-screen Display

The Sony Vaio UX490N/C’s 4.5 inch touch-screen is awesome. This display features XBRITE technology, which basically means that the black tones will be rich and deep and white tones will be very bright. The maximum resolution of this display is 1024 x 600 pixels, which gives it excellent clarity and detail. The display slides up to reveal the keyboard.

Wireless Options

This mini PC comes equipped with a lot of wireless options. Specifically, it has built-in Bluetooth capability, tri-mode Wi-Fi, WWAN, and WLAN. You can pretty be connected to the Internet no matter where you are in the World.

Bluetooth: This feature allows you to synchronize your mini PC with other devices such as a cell phone or PDA.

Tri-mode Wi-Fi: This type of wireless connectivity refers to the Wi-Fi commonly used in houses, offices, or businesses. This will allow your mini PC to connect to the Internet anytime that you are within range of these signals.

WWAN: This acronym stands for “wireless wide area networks”. These signals cover a very large geographic area (city, state, etc.), and work much like cell phone signals do. This type of connectivity allows for better coverage than standard Wi-Fi used by coffe shops or at your home.

WLAN: This type of connectivity is a lot like WWAN, but the coverage is not so broad (usually covers a building or two).

The combination of all of these wireless options, allows you to be connected to the Internet from almost anywhere.
