Green Kitchen '08 Winner The Spark 2009 Competition is underway and practically everyone with any kind of new design is invited to enter. as long as your entry has not been on the market before January 2008. But don't let that caveat frighten you; your work doesn't have to be "out there" at all. Spark invites everyone, professionals, students, and novices to participate. Spark calls its contest, "The Democratization of Design."
Design is a word that in the past 50 years has expanded to encompass everything from architecture to gadgetry, from consumer goods to business strategies, from ecological endeavors to gaming, from education to trophies... The design categories take up a whole page of the Spark Awards website in small print!
What will the Spark Awards jury be looking for? Number 1: Inventiveness and innovation! That's Globus '08 Winnerwhere we product developers come in strong! Other criteria: sustainability, suitability, discovery and implementation (what was your process?), aspiration for design, safety and ergonomics... There are 11 criteria in total and they are broad enough to cover the 40-something categories of entries.
The competition is in two phases; the first phase is now until September 11, 2009. But, early registration is definitely wise. It saves you money and it also gives you more exposure to the judges. Phase II deadline is October 12, 2009. There are special considerations for dates and fees for different classes of entries, which I advice you to read carefully. (Dates & Prices)
