Stay Cool While Sleeping With Reusable Gel Mat

Summer's here and the nights are warm... not a good thing for those who either don't have air conditioning or prefer not to use it for economic and/or environmental reasons. Keeping cool while sleeping is essential for a good night's sleep, and this reusable Gel Mat from Japan's Kobayashi Pharmaceutical can make it happen.

The 28 by 36 inch (70 x 90 cm) mat is filled with polymer gel and has a washable 100% polyester covering. It's designed to be placed on the bed under the bedsheet, positioned perpendicularly to the sleeper so that the edges of the mat extend off to the sleeper's sides, like airplane wings.

As the sleeper lays on the mat, their body heat will be absorbed and the heat-conductive gel will distribute it to the "wings".

As those portions of the mat become warmer than the ambient air above them, heat will radiate out of the mat and the sleeper will find himself or herself laying upon a cooler surface. The principle applies not just for sleepers, but for anyone wanting to relax and keep cool anytime of the day or night.

The Gel Mat costs 4,200 yen (about $47.50), tax included, and can be found at Japanese department stores as well as online at Amazon Japan. (via Impress Watch)

EDITOR'S NOTE: This cool gel mat seems to work in a similar way and is available in the U.S. through Amazon here.
