Textured Paint To Debut On The New Peugeot 208

French automaker Peugeot is debuting textured exterior paint on the new Peugeot 208 supermini due to be introduced in June of 2015. Displaying a finish that's not quite matte and not exactly satin, the textured paint is rough to the touch and tough as they come: Peugeot guarantees the finish for the life of the car.

Developed over the course of four years and protected by an international patent, the paint will initially be offered in only two hues: Ice Grey and Ice Silver. Both offer a slightly sandpaper-ish tactile treat that's no accident: the lacquer is infused with fine particles of silica (aka sand) and micro-beads of polyamide.

It's the silica that imbues the new textured paint with its strength and durability though Peugeot recommends owners avoid waxing the finish either by hand or via automated car washes. The paint will easily stand up to frequent washing and even pressure washing, however, as Peugeot states the finish is much more resistant to micro-scratching than a comparable standard matte finish.

Best of all, because the new colors are applied at the factory they'll share the same pricing as Peugeot's optional pearlescent paint. (via World Car Fans, images via PSA Peugeot Citroën)
