Tom Dixon Creates Awesome Lighting Designs For 2011 Milan Design Week: Preview
One of the most exciting design events of the year is i Salone Internazionale del Mobile, or, the Milan International Furniture Show. This year the week-long design show will begin on April 12, 2011, and the week marks the 50th anniversary of the event - "50 years looking forward to the future."
Two designs by ever-forward-looking British designer Tom Dixon will light up the Milan show in a new installation at Officine Stendhal, and the 400 square meter space will not be wasted.
Dixon, known for his experimental use of new technologies, will not disappoint with his two new lighting designs, Etch and Bulb.
With Etch, Dixon uses a hi-tech process employed to produce electronic parts like circuit boards. This digital process enables intricate patterns to be cut digitally onto Dixon's metal lampshades. Two shapes, a tower and a candle holder will premiere in Milan.
Dixon has also created his own energy-efficient light bulb, debutting in Milan; it's called Bulb. Oversized, the T5 Bulb comes with a standard E27 thread that can be used with most fittings. Again, Bulb is not just a Bulb. Dixon will integrate it into multiple bulb chandelier frames.
Besides the new lighting designs, Dixon will also bring some smart and efficient new furniture designs with him to Milan, 2011. You can find them on Tom Dixon's website, or you can be surprised!
