Yet again, the Geneva Motor Show comes to a close and the crowd pleasers have to be recognized. Here are the 8 highest rated concepts from Geneva 2008.
Geneva Concept 1 : Audi R8 V12 TDI
Ever since Audi hinted at the R8 V12, people have been falling all over themselves for more information. Under the hood is a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 diesel producing 500hp and 740ft/lbs of torque, the latter of which is ready at only 1500RPM. Audi said there is no "official" word of production.
Geneva Concept 2 : Suzuki A-Star
Designed by a joint Japanese and Indian team , the A-Star is small and sleek. Most likely designed as a city car, the A-Star has a small conventional gasoline powerplant that is "very efficient" and "very clean." Plans to produce for India are in the near future and the far future is unclear.
Geneva Concept 3 : Renault Twingo RS
Details were scarce in the Twingo's corner, being the newest and most affordable Renaultsport model available. It will be motivated by a 1.6L inline-4 cranking 133hp. The suspension and chassis have also been slightly modified to offer a more crisp response through the turns.
Geneva Concept 4 : Renault Megane
Once again, Renault was very vague on details for the Megane Concept. A pair of scissor doors are among the design points. They wouldn't say much about motor options, but what they did tell us was that it was the first in a movement toward more "pleasure cars" in the lineup.
Geneva Concept 5 : Maserati Chicane
Although beautiful, the Chicane technically isn't a Maserati. The original design was created by art students studying at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED). Several designs were collected and this one was chosen to be showcased by Maserati. However, Maserati is working on a smaller coupe for future production, perhaps the Chicane?
Geneva Concept 6 : Saab 9-X
The new Saab concept is a huge marker in the history of Saab automotive design. The styling of the 9-X screams aircraft, while also being welcoming to the average consumer. Power is provided from a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that produces an impressive 200 horsepower while running E85. Estimates put about 47 miles to every gallon.
Geneva Concept 7 : Pininfarina Sintesi
The Sintesi is no stranger to the spotlight. Since the first drawing were released, there has been a massive following. Four fuel cells provide power to all 4 corners and give the sleek car a 0-60mph time of 7.5 seconds. To recharge, a combination of solar panels and regenerative braking are used. When running in sport mode, the Sintesi is said to top out at 155mph.
Geneva Concept 8 : Giugiaro Quaranta
As usual, the Giugiaro design team brought a sexy, eye-catching concept to the Geneva Motor Show. The engine is mounted in the center of the vehicle and the hybrid powers all 4 wheels. The interior is roomy and comfortable, which makes carrying the family around easier.
Can't wait till next year.
