Jordan Knight, one of the five aging boy-band troubadours who make up New Kids On The Block sent out a tweet on April 23, at 1:14AM, with the simple enigmatic word: "tink!" From that day forward, tens of 1000s of tweets have flooded into the Twitterverse questioning what he meant by that!
Up until the time of this posting on April 26, 2009, tweeps continue to be left in the dark, with only a handful of updates from Knight, the most recent of which noted: "Dante is gonna make a video of me demonstrating what Tink! is... I'll put it on the website or something..."
While we wait to find out if Ashton Kutcher is hiding in the bushes ready to send us a "punk'd," tweet or whether this is a desperate attempt on the part of a fading recording artist to revive his failing career - time will tell.
But in the meantime, while those of us with nothing better to do than keep a watchful eye on Twitter's trending reports, I thought it might be fun to conjecture WTF "tink!" could possibly mean?... and then at the end of this blog have you all vote on what you think is the most likely hidden meaning!
TOP TEN THINGS "tink!' COULD BE?
Clinking of Glasses
A silent gas emitted rectally
Short for "stink"
Short for "tinkle"
Short for Tinkerbell
Acronym - Tweeting Interest in New Kids
tink! spelled backwards is KNIT!
(and I have no clue what KNIT is an acronym for?)
New single off of the latest New Kids on the Block CD
None of the Above
Ron Callari (not a Hater, just a Blogger!)Update: Since this blog was posted, I have received over 1000 "hate" tweets, 100 "hate" comments and 1 tweet from Jordan Knight himself. So obviously the New Kids on the Block are back and furiously popular once again.
As the writer of this blog and poll, I found it more than amazing that a recording artist could capture the imagination of his fans by posting an inane word like "tink" on Twitter. And then watch his adoring fans tweet themselves silly for the last 96 hours in hopes they will be the first to uncover its meaning. I was even more amazed when I described Jordan Knight as a potentially failing artist. It was a point of conjecture on my part, but in the course of the last 4 days I have received more "hate" tweets than I can shake a stick at. (Sorry about that ladies!)
But even Jordan Knight himself noted my blog in one of his recent tweets, and apparently he was pleased that somebody was writing about the 'tink' phenomenon--->

Jordan Knight's email referring to this blog!
So maybe if the man himself can rise above a mild critique, his fans should take notice and follow suit. After all, your visit to this blog reinforces his popularity!
So as a social media experiment, Jordan Knight, my hat is off to you. Bravo on rallying your troops behind something you have kept secret for so long. While in the history of viral marketing this will not go down as one of the greatest examples, it is none the less a very valiant attempt of using the Internet to create a buzz... and direct it to do one's bidding!
Well I hope that I gotcha you tinking...give us your thoughts by voting for the best guess as to WTF you tink tink! is? Survey results will be available here and on twitter. Tweet http://twitter.com/roncallari with your thoughts, comments and additional ideas!

WTF?
Submitted on April 28th, 2009 by AnonymousIt appears like the 3 New Kids on the Block fans have been quite busy the past few days. Honestly, I've never seen so much animosity over a lame band. The author is correct and if you don't agree, that's cool, but calm down a bit and quit throwing around unnecessary invective. It's just a short, silly article. Go rock out at the NKOTB concert and back away from the keyboard for a while.

NKOTB is back full swing and we still love them!!!
Are you for real???
Submitted on April 28th, 2009 by AnonymousWHAT??????
Are you for real? or are you kidding me?
Where do you come up with ANY of NKOTB having failing carrers??? I do believe that all the "kids" who went to shows back in the day are the grown women who are buying tickets for all the shows now. Have you seen them on TV??? Have you been to ANY concert?? I think not because if so you would know their carrers are anything but failing. These guys are as hot today as they were 19 years ago. When they walked away 15 years ago they left us wanting more and now that they are back I'm just one of thousands of woman who are very glad they are. SHOOT even my 12 year old daughter loves them and come June we will be in North Carolina and Virginia to catch 3 shows. I hope they stay around a long time because I WILL spend hard earned money for them to make me happy and give me my bang for my buck.
Failing star??? Failing carrer??? Look in the mirror because that is the only failing one here.
oh of course.....
Submitted on April 28th, 2009 by Anonymoushe put the link to your blog on his twitter page... are you kidding me you don't see the one and only reason why Jordan Knight put a link to ur page there??????

Submitted on April 28th, 2009 by Anonymousyou my friend are an idiot. Just the fact that you have no idea what is going on in the entertainment world is enough to discredit your BS blog! Submitted on April 29th, 2009 by AnonymousKnit isn't an acronym! It's a word, as in, using knitting needles and yarn... Y'know, knitting?! When you make a mistake and have to unknit a stitch, that is called tinking, because it is knit spelled backwards. It was the first thing I thought of because I am a knitter myself, but I'll eat my hat if that is the answer! Jordan doesn't strike me as the knitting type somehow...!

Ron... Ron... Ron...
Submitted on April 30th, 2009 by ShyPerversionRon, this is the last time I leave you to write alone. What did I get myself into?
Making me do simple HTML when I can barely open my eyes. My fault for
accidentally falling asleep with a friend on Skype watching The Last
Startfighter. He was ever so kind enough to tell me that I snore,
thanks Jer(@ZoomZoom2009)!
Now to clarify a Tweet I got in response to your lovely update!
I did not "Twitter Slap" Ron every time he said Tink because I am some
out of control NKOTB fan that feels I have to defend every single
little negative thing said about NKOTB. KNOTB are aware of the many
things that are said about them, good or bad. I am sure they are
flattered, and even somewhat proud that so many loyal fans flock to
their defense. They are big boys, and they are more than capable of
taking care of themselves without needing my vicious claws to assist.
These Ladies are all doing such a bang up job of abusing Ron without my
constant need to add my two cents.
I did not slap Ron because of his article, and his misinformation of a "failing" career. No matter how wrong he was!
I slapped him for his over usage of the word Tink!
The vast majority of you have no clue what it means, yet still anxiously spread it around like some type of 80's fad!
Now I feel this over whelming urge to go find my purple popple doll.
My loyalty!
I am a fan of NKOTB since forever! I was at all three local Fresno
concerts of NKOTB. I even slept in line for tickets on the 2nd concert!
The morning of April 16th 2009, the day of the Fresno concert. I
injured my back, and the pain was unbearable. I could not move
properly, could barely walk, and the pain was enough to bring me to
tears on some occasions, Did I punk out and stay home and not go to the
concert? HELL NO!! I went to that concert on pain killers and I rocked
out with the other thousands of screaming fans. I waited so many years
for this moment, and I counted the minutes till it was go time.My body
paid the price for it for more than a week later, but no regrets!
It did perplex me how I walked into the arena and found people eating. I remember thinking, "HOW THE F**K CAN THESE PEOPLE EAT?! IT'S NEW KIDS!" I made damn sure I went to the concert on "Empty" and stayed empty because I was not going to miss one second of it!
I even saved the confetti from the concert yay!
For years I day dreamed of singing the hard mix of "Games" at a
concert with New Kids. I am blissfully happy to have been given that
chance! I LOVE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK! NKOTB were my only comfort to a
s***tty childhood, and no matter what goes on in my life NKOTB music
always made me smile!
Keep hatin on Ron if it makes all you loyal fans feel better!
Much love to all the NKOTB fans <3
Much love to Jordan! <3<3<3
See you in the Twitterverse!
@ShyPerversion
P.S. Hey Ron? *SLAP*
Sassy? You have no idea!
Twitter slapping now sweeping the Twitterverse, pass it on!
They just dont get it...
Submitted on April 30th, 2009 by AnonymousIt is amazing to me how people who are not New Kids fans, view the "craze". They seem to be wanting to understand what the "it" factor is that creates such a loyal fan base.
"IT" is simply this-
The biggest, warmest, happiest smile that spreads across your face.
Being a New Kids fan means getting to experience those type of smiles when we play their music. The guys put the best of themselves into their music and their performances and you can see their best reflected in the smiles of their thousands of fans. It is joy in its most purest form.
Think about it, music can stir the soul, bring about or release emotions, it is a life force.
For us fans, it brings back so many happy memories and allows us to channel our younger selves.
We NKOTB fans are just this- HAPPY and when someone does not get what "it" is that can make one so happy - they try to analyze "it", pick "it" apart, and "it" just slips right through their fingers.
I'm just amazed
Submitted on May 3rd, 2009 by Anonymousthat more people care about defending their love of NKOTB than actually discussing the original question.
I wouldn't call it a failing career on behalf of either Jordan Knight, NKOTB or their fans. I'd consider it to be more along the lines of "a washed up band trying to grasp on to something they once had in an effort to re-live the lives they had in their teens and early twenties."
