While the opening ceremonies for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics generated a lot of
US Snowboarding Uniformconversation about the unique, patriotic uniforms (including Canada's donation to the 3-man Indian team), it's the Americans that have got everyone talking.
While some of the uniforms stand out and make a statement that's less focused on fashion, the US snowboarders are wearing trendy and stylish sportswear. There might not be anything especially unique about it, so this is not something I typically feature on this blog - but so many questions have been circulating about the origins of this uniform that I've just got to address it!
The original designs were unveiled back in December by Burton. While it might look casual, the uniforms are in fact top of the line technical sportswear pieces made from Gore-tex. The jackets are on trend with a plaid design and more subtly incorporate the red, white and blue. The pants are designed to look like baggy, distressed jeans; keeping up with the hottest styles as well.
Burton designed these uniforms based on the snowboarding team's input, and there's no doubting these are styles sure to stay. Would you hit the slopes, or even the streets modelling the style of the US team?

Lighten Up!!!
Lighten Up!!!!!
Life is too short to be so critical.
These Athletes have worked too hard for too long for someone as simple minded as you to come along and call them "grubby, pot-smoking, underwear showing teens".
(I think most of the snowboarders are in their 20's and not teens.)
I am proud of these Olympians! They have represented our country with the pride and flair, and have done the job they went to Canada to do.
People like you should stay in your hole.
If you don't want these athletes to be role models to your kids, turn off your TV.
Our Olympians look cool and trendy and bring home the gold. Your hat should be off to them.
Go away, you judge mental buzz kill and keep your angry comments to yourself.
Seriously, Lighten Up!!!!!!

I think they are great and love the look and want the jacket eventhough its not going to be sold which sucks. Its something different. When they are standing at the top of the halfpipe you know its USA waiting to go up there. Past years with just the white you never know whos actually who besides shaun white and the hair. As for people saying hey it looks like stoner wear and all snowboarders are stoners. They are athletes and i challenge you to even just go down the mountain and stay on your feet. Its a lot harder than it looks.

"Yeah, I sound like a prude
"Yeah, I sound like a prude but try watching this stuff with your young impressionable children and your perspective may change"
First of all you don't sound like a prude. You sound like a mental patient who needs to be commited!
Second, I have young "impressionable" children myself and I don't sit and comment to them about how I don't like what someone is wearing or that another persons outfit is too tight or flamboyant. We simply watch the athletes do what they do best and what they wear is NEVER an issue.
You are the sole person who is shaping your "impressionable" children and you only have yourself to blame with your ignorant ways.

Tool Time Tim Co-Host Wannabees!
Of all the designs available they pick Al Borland's wardrobe! What imagination!
The fashon guru's say plaid is in so it must be true. Talk about an old and boring
clothing style. This outfit was the most ugliest and boring in the event. But don't
worry, all you suckers who think that plaid is cool and exciting looking, Tool Time
Tim is interviewing for a new upcomming series! No shortage applicants now!
Frigging plaid jackets. How boring and un-imaginative.....

Terrible looking outfits
These outfits were horrible looking. They made the athletes look like a bunch of sloppy bums. When athletes go the Olympics the whole world is watching. They should have been wearing something more stylish and clean looking.

Good news!
A can of Scotchguard and some thriftstore dumpster diving will keep a few bucks out of the hands of Big Brother Burton while giving you that same scumbag / too cool for school U.S. snowboard team look.
There were several VERY close finishes in SBX, speedsuits would certainly have made the difference.
Speed suits only look tight..they are actually very very comfortable and not the least bit restrictive.
But, doesn't really matter anyway because it's just snowboarding...if I wanna go slower and look trashy like my Mom did while she was slutting around Seattle in '88 then I should be allowed to do that even at the Olympics, right?

These are the ugliest
These are the ugliest uniforms imaginable. Are the Olsen twins working for Burton these days?!

Distressed Jeans = Pot Smoking?
Dude, are you serious? Give me a break! That was the most ridiculous thing I've ever read in my life.

OH MY GOD
For the person who said they can't wait for a real athlete to take on snowboarding, wear something practical and crush these jokers........WHATEVER! Sounds like you're a bit bitter that you couldn't even come close to the talent that White has and he could do it wearing a Jiffy Tie bag if he wanted to.
First of all, the image it represents is current style, fashion and what this generation wants to see. You're not going to see snowboarders going down in a suit and tie. "Impressionable young children".......seriously, the message you're telling your children with these thoughts is that it doesn't matter how much time and effort you put into something, if your clothes aren't "appropriate" it's all wrong. How about you take the time to teach your children about all the hard work Shaun White put into his training, the dedication it took to do the Double Mc and the fact that he did it with a great attitude, a smile on his face and he had fun. That's the problem these days, people take things WAY too seriously and the only thing it's going to do to your kids is teach them to be critical, cynical and fearful of everything in this world and when they get out into the world they're going to be so ill prepared to embrace it.

You're too funny.
It happens that these pot smoking, baggy pant wearing kids have developed an acrobatic talent that others would dream of acquiring. The style is very different from other winter sports as snowboarding has always typically been picked up by young men and women who lived the lifestyle of smoking a a little pot in the woods of their local resort, learning some steezy-ass tricks, drinking a little beer with their friends after work at someone's house and living with their parents until they land a semi-decently payed blue collar job when they're 25 years old unless they obtain enough skill to go pro somewhere along the way where they can take home contest money and spend most of the year traveling. Yes, snowboarders dress kind of thuggish and listen to Andre Nikitina over Justin Beiber... but they have a thousand times more skill than lets say... the fools that slide a stone across ice and sweep its path to make it land in a circle. I'm not saying that'd be a fun game to play... but alas... it's a game, not a sport. - Snowboarders will continue to rock their style and many will continue to smoke a little pot until they one day decide not to anymore. At least they're not testing positive for steroids or cocaine. They push the sport, wear baggy-ass pants, do double cork 1440's and go home and get stoned all after a good day's work of risking their lives and having some fun. I'm proud to be an American.

Don't even start on the weed
You think Michael Phelps is a dirty pot smoker? You think the BONG pic disgraced America? It is time to stop the negative view on pot.Baggy jeans is just how kids dress these days. You probably drink don't you, and you probably do it in front of your kids like its not a big deal. GO EDUCATE YOURSELF
