Wallflowers Can Beautify Their Surroundings: Vertical Garden by Haldane Martin

Haldane Martin, one of the most creative and prolific South African designers, has designed a unique modular planter system for outside the home.  The Wallflower Vertical Garden will be presented at the Design Indaba Design Inspiration Expo in Cape Town, South Africa, February 25 to 27, 2011.

Martin had Capetown's city dwellers in mind when he created this latticed system.  The narrow strips of land between each dwelling do not allow for much 'farming,' but the Wallflower provides a practical, economic, and environmentally sound way to grow organic vegetables and flowers, providing food to the home-dwellers and green to the neighborhoods.

A hexagonal trellis system holds three sizes of recycled plastic containers and integrates a branching, drip irrigation system.

Martin will have a working prototype of the Wallflower Vertical Garden exhibited at the Design Indaba.  He is funding the project through Kickstarter, so if you love it, click on, and invest what you can!
