World's First Eyeball Tattoo - Ouch!

A Toronto man has been the first to get an eyeball tattoo. Basically, he has turned the whites of his eyes blue.

Corneal tattooing is usually used for patients that have had trauma to their eye, not for this, which is called body modification.

It took 40 injections of blue ink in order to complete this procedure. Pigment was injected under the top layer of the eye using a syringe. The syringe injected the ink into the eye. At first they had tried a traditional needle with ink on it, but when the ink didn't hold, they switched to the syringe.

The man has reported that all is well so far, but it feels like he has something in his eye.

I can barely stand needles poking me anywhere, but in the eye? I can't even imagine. I wonder what would happen if you decided to change your mind after it was done?

Who here wants to get the world's next eyeball tattoo? Maybe a colorful rainbow would work nicely.

If you feel that this may be a bit extreme, you can always take the easy and painless way out and just put on one of these super weird contact lenses instead.

Is that the tattoo artist's

Is that the tattoo artist's dirty finger nails in the first picture? If so, gross!

it wasn't really tattooed...

and there wasn't just one man there were 3, and I don't think they ever got finished. Here's the original http://modblog.bmezine.com/2007/07/02/three-blind-mice/. I think they all just have the initial spot.

I don't think he can go

I don't think he can go blind. Someone commented in one of the links above that light passes through the black part of the eye, not the white.

Very interesting, to say the least!

Besides the eye catching

Besides the eye catching title (no pun intended), the dirty fingernails in the first picture, grossed me out too. I wonder if he can laser his tatoo away like traditional tatoos that people eventually realize that they don't care for - talk about ouch!

Mar 31, 2008

it should be noted

That that's Shannon Larratt, the owner/publisher of BMEzine, a body modification e-zine. The pictures above are a bit deceptive, it makes it appear that the whole eye is blue when really the first picture is more accurate as to what I looks like, the last picture is just ink in his eye that's not actually under the skin. The dirty fingernails are Shannon's I believe.

The dirty nails totally grossed me out more then the eye tattoo.

Dune Fan?

Could this dude be a huge Frank Herbert fan? In Herbert's Dune books, characters addicted to the mind altering "Spice" were easily distinguished by the drugs effect of turning the eyeballs bluish.

does he realize that it is much quicker to get to the bloodstream from the eye than from the skin?

O_o

I can't understand what's the use of tatooing one's eye??? Also I cannot comprehend what this tatto represents after all, I mean, is it a figure or is just a drop of ink or what? And couldn't the owner of those dirty fingernails just wash his hands and brush the nails before having their picture taken???

Fingernails

I think the fingernails are not "dirty" in the sense of having dirt and grime. More likely they are stained with tattoo ink, and not a health hazard.

Honestly

Why the f**k would you do that

Aug 7, 2008

Taking fantasy too far

I could be wrong, but I suspect this person has gotten a little too immersed in the Dune books by Frank Herbert and wants to look like a Fremen desert warrior

Aug 13, 2008

Someone might do that if...

he was a big Frank Herbert/David Lynch fan

As in to look like the Fremen of Arrakis

Wouldn't the point be to have something in the blue? like a shape? or a word? Ugh that would be creepy.

dirty fingernails...

you think "ew gross... he just doesnt wash his hands" but if your working with black ink all the time, its going to dye your fingernails...

food coloring does the same thing.. and its blackneess of his nails, not like a dingy brown or anything..

So What

So the guy got his eyeball tattooed... Good for him he wanted to do it. He thought it would be cool. It probably did not come out like he wanted. Most things never do. But it was his choice hes not asking you to do it so lay off. Oh and I have been a tattoo artist for five years and I'll tell you its not the craziest thing I have ever seen. I have seen alot crazier in person.

cool

i first seen this on csi new york & thought it looked cool so i've been researching since & am quite convinced i will get this done (after i find out the end results, obviously i don t want to go blind)
i think the whole point of getting this done is just to be different

EYEBALL TATTOO

I think that this is by far the most stupidist idea that I have ever heard of.

Yes it does look cool, and yes it would look cool if you tattooed your eye with rainbow colours but I would never do this as you would probably go blind and besides, how would you change it back to your natural colour if you didnt like it anymore or were sick of getting dirty looks when you walk down the street.

I would love to hear from anybody that has actually had their eye tattooed.

Thanks from Emily x

Rose tinted glasses?

Perhaps the moron should have chosen a pinkish rosy ink for both eyes. Would if that would affect those colour blind. Hmm perhaps not as it's a brain, optic nerve or neural thing.

Fingernails review...

I tend to think the fingernails are actually the "tattoee" rather than the tattooer. The reason being, check out the angle of the fingers...looks like both hands being used, this guy doesn't look like hygiene is his biggest concern, nor are health issues since he IS getting an eye tat, and the tattooer is wearing gloves anyway!

But, I have to agree also that any artist is going to have some funky nail stuff going on. This doesn't look like artist hands, just pure funk, dirt, grime & looks like it's been there a while...sorry...clean up your act if you plan to post for all the World to see.

Spice Addiction

The coolest thing I've ever seen. Anyone whose read any of Frank Herbert's Dune novels most certainly agrees.

Granted, the guy is clearly a huge nerd, but dammit, that is a ballsy nerd. I want blue eyes!!! I want to look like a spice addict!
