13 Haunted Houses That Will Make You Wet Your Pants

3. The Darkness - St. Louis, Missouri

Ranked by AOL.com as the #3 scariest place in America, The Darkness pops up on every haunted house list due to its unrivaled scenic design. Every single inch of The Darkness is themed, with 100+ animations, 50 live actors, and over 40 realistic Hollywood quality sets. In order to achieve this high magnitude of reality, they have to spend $150,000 just to renovate from last year. Just be prepared to spend a lot of time screaming in the dark. (Halloween)

2. Netherworld - Atlanta, Georgia

Netherworld is truly an awe-inspiring haunted house. They deserve particular credit because, though they buy standard animatronics and such, they then take them and re-create and re-invent them to make everything truly unique to their haunted house. They also have arguably the best make-up team in the industry. It would be hard to tell one of their fake dead apart from a real dead person. (Halloween)

1. Nightmare: Face Your Fear - New York, New York

Let me just start out by saying that when I first visited the website for this haunted house, I had to click the "skip intro" icon immediately after it started because the intro was so disturbing...no lie. That should tell you something about the haunted house itself. Nightmare is super successful for two main reasons: 1) It is helmed by two off-Broadway producers who know something about effective theatricality and 2) a promo crew went out and polled thousands of locals about the 13 things that scare them the most. What results is 13 rooms in five haunted houses that are designed to play on and intensify emotions, phobias and anxieties. And, considering there is one available in each borough of New York City, they are out to get everyone. (Halloween)

So here they are. The top 13 haunted houses in the nation. If you live near one and love a good scare, you'd be a fool not to check them out. Even if they are a little out of reach, I'd say they are worth the drive. Good gouling everyone!

Best and Worst

Okay, just lastnight I went to a haunted house called Terror Town in Toledo, Ohio.  Okay, there is three houses you go through, we waited in line for THREE HOURS, just for the first one and the only thing that happened was balls fell on your head.   Literally over in less than a minute.  After the balls fell, they had us walk out and go to the next one.  Then the second house was clowns, and I hate clowns, but I didn't get scared once, it was complete bullshit.  One of the actors freaked out on my friend because he "touched her".  She got him kicked out because his hand accidently touched her and she called him "a fucking piece of shit."  Yeah, so just saying, DONT EVER WASTE YOUR MONEY THERE!  You WILL NOT be impressed.  Oh, and we didn't even bother going in the third house.

Now an awesome haunted house in Broadview Heights, Ohio is called Bloodview.  It's not all technology, there's actual people working who do sick shit, and it's so worth it.  It's absolutely amazing, and it's long so it's not a waste of money or time, everything is absolutely amazing there.  I've gone several times this year, they don't have the same things everynight and they change all their set-ups every year.  I recommend it.

Last note, Chicaggoo!  Haunted house called Dream Reapers, SCARES THE SHIT OUT OF YOUUUU.  Absolutely amazingggggg, highly highly highly recommend :)

Nightmare in NYC

I wasn't that impressed with Nightmare in NYC. Since it was in NYC, space was very limited. I poked one the actors in the eye. A couple of the 'rooms' were unique, and were definitely poking at 'personal fears'. However, it could've been done a 'bit more'. Anywho, I'l pay up to $25 to see this. Not the $40, or so, that it costs around halloween.

Erebus

I live in Michigan, never been to Erebus but to the people saying Realm of Darkness is better, are you on crack?
We waited outside in the rain for 2 hours to get into Realm of Darkness, we paid about 20 bucks and it was supposed to be an hour long thing. We went through three really boring rooms, the actors were barely in character. Then we get to pick from three doors. We picked a door that led us into the parking lot!!!!! On the way out one of the idiot kids I was with unscrewed a light bulb, and a maintenance guy rounded the corner and yelled at us! WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY we were only in there for 15 minutes and we pick the wrong door and we are out? Lame.

Bonnie Screams Haunted Ghost Town

Making its debut in 2008 is BONNIE SCREAMS HAUNTED GHOST TOWN! Located at a REAL ghost town at RED ROCK CANYON, in the darkest parts of Las Vegas, Bonnie Screams is as real as it gets! (Just ask the monsters and ghouls roaming Town Square).

Documentation of the horrifying events that have taken place in the towns’ darkest parts are scattered at best, since few have made it out alive. But what has been recorded, makes ones blood curl. Be prepared to run and scream as the towns’ creepy residents leap from their dark corner dwellings, and desperately try to make you one of their own.

No dome or trailer haunt can even come close to this. Finally, a national level haunted event in Las Vegas!

To check it out, go to www.hysteriacity.com.

Haha.

People get entirely too excited over someone else's opinion of what's good and what isn't. Didn't anyone learn as a child that everyone is entitled to their own thoughts? Everyone has a different scare level.

Anywho, kudos on adding Shocktoberfest. I don't scare easily, but it's definitely one of the best ones I've been to in my area.

And for those of you who live in the Bucks area, NEVER go to Scare Brothers. 25 bucks a person to walk around in darkness full of nothing then some random extreme strobelights that make you feel like you're having a bad trip. XD

face it

...unless you'd pay $25 for something dirty stinkin' like doo-doo. I bought tickets for the "timed" 11:00 entrance in Brooklyn, and as it instructs we showed up a little before 10:45. The handling of ticket holders was virtually non-existent, and it seemed as though there was no way to handle the flow of people coming in. We stood around until after 12:00 until we were finally let in.....to wait in another line. Eventually our "group" was let into the maze, and after seeing the first room with the girl alone in her room (oh no, make it stop!!) we were suddenly merged with the group in front of us. No joke. Now, please, imagine trying to go through a dark maze with about 30 people into rooms about 10x10 or so. Needless to say, we saw nothing since we were stuck behind all those people. And on top of that, I'm sure we were somehow steered the wrong way and right out to the exit because we certainly didn't see 13 rooms. Either that or the whole thing sucked a** way more than I thought. Anyway, I digress. The point is that I can't believe how ineptly managed the whole thing was. The whole experience was absolutely pitiful, and they already had our $ so

Fright Farm, PA

I have been to many haunted houses including "The House Of Shock" in LA. I wasn't terribly scared while going through it. However...I do think that the Fright Farm in PA is really good...check it out if you haven't.

HAHA

Your kidding right.
I'm fourteen and just got home from House Of Shock.
Very good show, but it sure wasnt scary. I was more afraid waiting in line then going through the house. If thats the scariest in the States, I'd rather not waste my money on some non-scary bologna like that.
although I have to say nice pyrotehnics and pre-house show. Although I was so pumoed before the show it made it an even bigger disappointment.

The actors were good, just not scary

at anonymous (ur an idiot)

This list matches most of what has been projected by the industry for the last five years as the scariest haunted houses out there. Netherworld was #1 for a while, which I just visited for the first time and must say, that it is pretty amazing. It's funny to me to see a list like this on inventorspot, mostly for the comments. Comments of the same people that go to haunted houses to be a badass. lighten up and realize the amount of work that goes into truly being able to scare people in real time. Sometimes I wish they had cameras within the site to see these badass dudes scream like women. We all know you weren't scared... and you bench like what, 325?

Re : 7 floors of hell haunted house

i went to the 7 floors house last weekend and have never seen so many people at a haunted house similar to(universals halloween horror nights orlando florida) ... now i say similar to as in atmosphere and detail of the quality and overall experience the... actors... hollywood quality makeup and special effects was fantastic!!!!very detailed scenes and house facades top notch...
they have 7 totally individual houses each one with its own theme ,many different food vendors gift shop ,numerous actors and radio stations to entertain spectators (that decide it is to scary not to enter the houses but to see others reactions and a taste of what is to come).
a very professional show with something for everyone .
now getting back to what i said earlier about being similar to Universals.H.H.N the 7 floors did not have .. Dark Rides or beer other than that ...................it was one great experiene which i highly reccomend A++++++
ps I also noticed that the 7 houses were not in a permanent building like all others that i have been to (in my opinion.....such time and effort that must be put into this show... wow .....???.. )
it is just amazing!!!! My Hat is off to the people which does this haunted house year after year...
Keep it up............

Jasons Woods?

This list sounds pretty good and i cant believe so many people are critizing it! Go make your own list and stop complaining! Well anyway.. I think Jasons Woods should have made the list.... since i know im going to get shit for this i will agree that it isn't that scary.. i jumped a couple of times maybe screamed once.. laughed alot.. but beyond words it was amazing!!!! The actors were great, it had great special effects, and all of the attractions were beatifuly planned out! Its my favorite place to go on halloween... i love the hayride (especial the fire) the most... well anyway in my opinion (which isnt saying much considering i havent gone to all the ones on here) it should have atleast made 13... im going to shocktoberfest this year so il write about that when i return!... Peace!

Oh n let me add one thing

Oh yah n Jasons Woods Isn't all blood and gore! Its more suspenseful then most haunted attractions! I went to The Valley Of Fear (not listed obviosly) once n it was a bit odd... the haunted houses weren't that good... the hayride was alrite... needed more suspense and shock and less ugly looking people following the wagon.. The actualy valley of fear walk thru was very good tho! Not alot of stuff... but it was good like that stuff wasnt happenig all at once! It was just me and my friend (you couldnt see any other people around) and we would just walk and look around for awhile because we knew somthing was gonna happen.. its worth a stop if your in the bensalem pa area...but yeah.. and to the peson who went to shocktoberfest could you provide some more details for me... oh n to the guy advertising his haunted house/atraction.... whoops did i say something.. i mean i didnt notice one bit that you that your site whoreing your most likely lame attraction one bit... no sir (WINK WINK.....NOD NOD) get outa here... ya could have atleast not made it obvious... well for any insults or comments of my posts! MY NAMES RYAN! whooo id like to thank A.D.D. for making me write this long azz stuff
