Recycled Decor To Keep Your Bitter Thanksgiving Dinner Guests Distracted

Thanksgiving is suppose to be a time to gather with your family and enjoy a delicious eco-meal, but for some of us it makes it hard to be thankful for the things you are thankful for when there is so much tension amongst the family. Whatever the reason for the tension help get rid of it by distracting everyone with these innovative recycled dinner items on your table.

Victimless Leather Coat Falls Victim to Science

Halloween may be over, but the creepiness of this next innovation seems to have just begun. When I first read about this idea I immediately thought of three things: Silence of the Lambs, Body Exhibits and those dresses made of human hair. I only wish I would have read about it sooner. What is it? It is a coat grown from living stem cells.

Innovative DIY Human Nest Filled with Autumn Leaves and You

It's fall and for many of us colorful leaves cover our yards, the driveway and the streets. Like every fall, some of us will rake our leaves up and put them on the curb for the trash. Some of us will rake our leaves and put them in a compost bin, and others like designer Gerard Moliné will join the birds and build a nest with the leaves. That's right a nest.

My Favorite Solar Powered Halloween Lights for 2008

This year's list of Solar Powered Halloween lights is a little different than the ones in the past. This years solar powered lights are gentler in appearance and more versatile in use. In other words they can be used as more than just Halloween décor but also the entire season of autumn décor. Take a look at the list below to see what I mean.

Solar Powered Generator Saves Green Quietly

Hurricane Ike came and went and in between left a lot of people, among other things, without electricity for days (some people weeks). If you have ever had to live without electricity you know it isn't impossible to do, but it is a hassle and it does take a lot of rethinking on how to stay cool and keep fresh food. Those who could afford it had the option of using gasoline-powered generators and the very lucky had the opportunity to use the Solar Stik.

Sharp’s Solar Powered Television A Little Too Excessive?

Sharp has recently introduced their second concept solar powered television at CEATEC this year. The first one, a 26-inch solar powered television, was introduced back in July and designed for people living in areas without utility-supplied electricity. Their latest version, much too big for my needs, is a 52-inch LCD solar powered television.

Idling Alternatives Cools Truckers, Save Gas and Help The Planet

Not idling is one of the many good ways to save gas and be more environmentally friendly, but there are few to keep cool on hot days when, for some important reason, you just have to sit in your vehicle and wait. What is the average Jane and Joe to do to not idle and yet stay cool when there is need to stay cool in a vehicle and opening the windows just isn't enough? How about truckers?

Want to be a cowboy this Halloween? I don't blame you. Cowboys can be awfully sexy. Lucky for you, here is a way to show some love and loyalty to your favorite beer company and be an eco-friendly cowboy at the same time.

Has the Man Powered Ferris Wheel Crossed The Green Line?

I’m afraid there isn’t much information about this man powered Ferris Wheel somewhere in Southern India. Search after search the only information I found about this green innovation is this video. Still I’ve chosen to share this innovation with you because I find it dangerously fascinating and evident that contrary to popular belief the eco-conscious do like to have fun.

Solar Spy Com-Bat May Soon Fly For The Army

Is it a bat? A plane? It's neither yet. Instead, it's the Army's bat-shaped innovative spy plane concept. The idea is to create a miniature spy plane resembling a bat and its use of echolocation. The spy plane would run off a lithium battery recharged by wind, solar power and even vibrations.

New Bacteria Strains Could Be Used to Make Plastic

What if plastic wasn't made from oil or natural gas? What if it was made from Bacteria? Would it be safer for the environment? Would it be safer for us? What if the bacteria were genetically engineered Escherichia coli (E. coli)?

Electricity from Dirt: Is it Possible?

It turns out wind power, solar power and lunar power are not the only possible renewable energy sources for our future. Dirt power might be next. There are already plans for use of it in places of Africa that are off-grid.

Discarded Dreams Mattress Competition Is Here

Today I came across a mattress recycling competition post and I was delighted to see it. Finally someone is doing something to spark more interest in new ways to recycle used beds. Who? Architecture for Humanity and Rubicon National Social Innovations is inviting people to enter the Discarded Dreams Mattress Competition.

Typemonstriters : Jeremy Mayer Makes Frankenstein Proud

Remember typewriters? I barely do. I remember playing with one way back when and even then it was already considered old and useless.

Lovely, as the sounds were that came from pushing buttons and hearing the stop bell ring on an old typewriter, there is no denying that when computers came along typewriters just couldn't compare to computers. Since there was no more need for them typewriters were simply discarded. Fortunately Jeremy Mayer came a long and created a way to rescue some of them from the landfill.
