I really think that social media might be the best way for small businesses to promote themselves and their products. First of all, most of social sites accounts are free and they could be used in order to promote events, distribute promotional products, keep in touch with potential customers and even hear their complaints, so I guess there are many reasons for the business owners to consider getting such an account in case they don't have one.
