Strange, Odd, Weird or Wacky

Imagine a giant sock monkey. Rockford city did and they named him Nelson. He is 5'8" tall without his hat; 6'2" with his hat and 7'2" including his tail. Nelson, named after John Nelson (the man patented the first sock knitting machines in 1869, 1876 and 1879) is made out of 44 Rockford Red Heeled socks. He is the original giant sock monkey and you can visit him at the Midway Village and Museum Center.

According to a 2005 survey of more than 1,000 moms, lots of blunders happen in the bathroom. For example, 85 percent have fallen into the toilet when the seat is left up. One quarter surveyed have resorted to using toilet paper for a wet child emerging from the bath when no towel was in sight. It has been years since I've ridden a bike, other than a stationary fitness bike. I've thought about it a lot, but never really did anything to get back on one. Besides, there aren't many places around where I live to ride a bike without needing to drive several miles to a park. I could risk the busy streets, but I think my bravery flew out the window as soon as I had kids.

Then a few months ago my daughter received a bike as a gift and it got me thinking about how nice it would be to go bike riding with her, even if just at the park. It would give us a chance to bond more and exercise together. read more »

What do you get when you cross a willful, stubborn, potty-training toddler with baggy, saggy jeans?

Truthfully, I don't want to know. But thanks to sister inventors Talia Bahr Goldfarb and Danielle Bahr Eason, kids now have a simple way to keep their pants above their knees. Their solution? Myself Belts. These innovative belts snap around the first belt loop (so it remains attached at all times). After sliding the belt through the rest of the loops, the child simply secures the end with the Velco closure. Dr. Yoshiro NakaMats has shattered the world record for most patents held that was formerly held by Thomas Edison. He currently holds over 3000 patents and is Japan's most prolific inventors. One of this most influential inventions was the floppy disk, which he invented when he was 23 years old as a student.

BBC's series "Adam and Joe go Tokyo", interviews Dr. NakaMats. Adam and Joe Go Tokyo was a eight episode series that was aired on BBC Three and BBC One in 2003. The show was originally rumoured to be called Asian Invasion, and showed Adam and Joe looking at Japanese culture, music, meeting famous Japanese people and unforgettably trying to become famous in eight weeks.

When I was a kid, I remember every Thanksgiving following my uncle into the hallway so he could retrieve the phone book from his closet.

He would hold it high above his head, shuffle to the table, and with a flourish, place it firmly on the black vinyl dining room seat.
