I recently attended my local Inventors Association (Inventors Alliance in Northern California) and noticed that Inventors kept asking Andrew Krauss (President of Inventors Alliance) about the differences between Manufacturing and Licensing a product.  New Inventors were confused about what these terms meant and wanted to learn more about the factors to consider when deciding which way to go for their own product.  So I thought I'd take a minute to discuss both options as this comes up all of the time in my workshops and classes as well.


LifeCycle Tower: The World's Tallest Wooden Building

CREE Group proposes to build the tallest wooden building, appropriately named the "Life Cycle Tower," for Dornbirn, Austria.  Using hybrid-construction that will cut CO2 emissions by 90% and construction time by 50%, the eco-conscious construction of the 30-story building uses sustainable resources such as timber and composite slab (wood/concrete).  One of the oldest building materials known to man proves itself to be a timeless mainstay of construction even in the age of skyscrapers.


Robonaut 2 Goes To Space - With Or Without His Legs

"While it might be just a single step for this robot, it's really a giant leap forward for tinmankind," said Rob Ambrose, acting chief of Johnson Space Center's automation, robotics and simulation division in Houston. Ambrose was referring to Robonaut 2, aka R2, who may not have his legs or torso yet, but he is going into space this week on the final flight of the space shuttle Discovery.
