In addition to topics such as green energy, cost containment and management systems for the travel industry, the itinerary for this mission will also include the new field of social media.

Geolocation App Rethinks Check-Ins Making It Less Hat & More Cattle

Since geo-locaton apps - also known as location-based social networks - became part of our cultural zeitgeist, there are many who have chosen not to join their rank and file. Still considered  part of the Wild West fringe of the social media landscape, the schadenfreude descriptor of  "all hat, no cattle" comes to mind in calling out apps that are more playful than serious.

See It To Believe It: Orange-Powered Billboard

Well, an advertising agency from France has done it. An impressive, innovative feat based on some well-founded principles of science: the orange-powered Tropicana billboard that is lit by energy obtained from the thousand oranges that fill its insides.

Since "4 Squared" Is 16, "Foursquare Day" Must Be 4/16

While Silicon Valley has more techie start-ups than you can shake a stick at, NYC always seems to have to work a little bit harder to earn its geek cred. However, on April 16, that will change, when Foursquare, one of New York's standout home-based LBSs receives a special honor. On that symbolic date, Mayor Bloomberg has declared it "Foursquare Day."

Send Your iPad A Few Decades Back With The Typescreen

Back in the day before computers and keyboards came into play were the reliable typewriters. I remember having to take out our old trusty one a few years back when the power went out and I had to submit a paper the very next day.

$25 Slashed Off The Kindle But You Pay For It With Ads

The recent $25 drop in the price of the popular e-book reader Kindle has caused quite the stir this week. However, the price reduction comes with a cost for the users that may be a possible dealbreaker to some: ads.

Location-Based Social Networks Need Sheriffs, Not Mayors

Foursquare has been known to hand-out Mayoralships as an incentive for followers to increase their check-ins activity. Since those mayors aren't doing anything to quash crime in our cities, perhaps Foursquare should think about appointing "Sheriffs" instead - to keep a little law and order in the location-based Wild West.

Nuclear Plant Cookies May Be The Worst Souvenir Ever

Energy bars for your radio-active lifestyle? Japanese “monaka” cookies imprinted with the image of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant were being sold in the nearby town of Okumamachi, before it was evacuated due to excessive radiation levels.

Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Fun, Winklevii Need To Take The $65M & Run

Hoping to ride the coat-tails of an award winning movie, an unauthorized biopic and a graphic novel, the Winkelvoss Twins (often dubbed the Winklevii) and their law suit came up empty when they tried to get more than their original $65M settlement from Mark Zuckerberg. The 9th Court of Appeals ruled that the original ruling would stand - and that Facebook was not obligated to pay one cent more.

The Moshi iVisor AG Protects Your iPhone 4 Good (And Without The Bubbles)

When it comes to screen protectors, any new addition to the current lineup available to the market is good news. At least that's what I think anyway. I'm probably not the only one out of the earth's billions of people who get extremely anal when it comes to finding the perfect cover that will not only protect my iPhone but also last for a long time as well.

Ralph Lauren Goes Green—With His Solar-Paneled Backpack

The RLX backpack looks just like an ordinary backpack, except for the fact that, well, it's not. That's because it has a solar panel to charge your gadgets. That's right: you will literally be a walking, talking charging machine. Er.. That didn't come out right.

The Mother Of Motherboards, FB's 'Open Compute Project' Is Portal To Web 3.0

The blogosphere is abuzz about Zuckerberg's 'Open Compute Project' - his latest innovation of opening  his data center's hardware to the industry at large. The intent being to create data mines that are cheaper, more efficient and more environmentally sound. In so doing, the megalithic social network will bring down costs - and in essence - create a new golden standard, using an old business model.

Sucking Less Socially Will Pay More At Google

A lot has been written about Google's lack-luster attempts at social media. From Google Buzz reduced to a whisper to Wave waving good-bye, it's been a hard fought uphill battle trying to compete with the LIKES (pun intended) of Facebook - only to come up empty each time.

I don't know what's up with all these BlackBerry leaks lately but here's another one for you that's just in: the BlackBerry Orlando. Unlike the previous leaks, there aren't too many detailed photos or specifications but a leak is a leak until the phone's been announced by Research In Motion (RIM) and as of this moment, they still haven't done so yet.
