A UK research team has solved one of the most complex problems in robotics - the handling of unfamiliar objects. Their creation, Boris 2, is able to accurately assess anything it examines. Evidently, it'll soon be able to load a dishwasher.
That's actually a lot more impressive than it sounds.
Yesterday, three weeks after setting out from Halifax, Hitchbot completed its cross-country journey in Victoria, BC - surprisingly still in one piece. Designed as an experiment in robot-human interaction, the little machine was sent to hitchhike from one end of the country to the other.
