Creating Construction Sustainability With Hempcrete

A lot of people are concerned with creating low a carbon footprint and ecological sustainability. Now you can build a home from more sustainable materials that also creates a reduced need for heating and cooling with something called hempcrete. Hemp has long been known to be a versatile and easily replenished resource for making everything from clothing and ropes to chips and buildings. Hemp has also long been vilified by the ban on marijuana.

No Electricity And Need A Light? Then SOCCKET To Me!

A group of Harvard alumni said let there be light. After some serious work and designing, and a few fun games of soccer there was light. It is a fairly simple idea to bring electricity and light to areas of the world where such things are scarce. It comes in the form of a soccer ball called SOCCKET that captures kinetic energy during play. Just a quick half hour of play can power an LED light for up to three hours.

Algae Lamps Generate Energy And Use More CO2 Than Trees

There are two great environmental challenges that we face today: one is the need for clean, renewable electrical energy and the other is a way to convert massive amounts of CO2 back to oxygen in the atmosphere. French biochemist Pierre Calleja may have found the answer in his street lamp powered by microalgae.

Energy Saving Nano-Carbon Light Bulbs Could Outshine CFLs and LEDs

A Taiwan university research team has been awarded a patent on energy efficient nano-carbon light bulbs. Unlike popular CFL bulbs and LED lights, the new nano-carbon light bulbs and tubes use a mercury-free manufacturing process and can be easily integrated into existing light bulb production facilities.

Save Power with Online Energy Conservation Game '#denkimeter'

Imagine being able to harness the collective power of the world's electronic gaming community to enact positive social change and effect energy conservation.
