Like Music While You Run? - Nike + iPod Sports Kit
Here is another innovation find for AmericanInventorSpot.com from our guest blogger Imani Peterson. Imani is the webmaster of several sites and believes the internet is to be molded at will. Apple Computer and Nike have teamed up to bring consumers the Nike+ Ipod Sports Kit.
The Nike+Ipod Sports Kit creates an interactive run giving joggers specific information including the amount of calories burned, distanced they've traveled and even the ability to transfer the information to their Ipods in real time. Let's not forget the most obvious here, it plays songs too.
Sure mp3 players and shoes are completely unrelated to each other but you have to admit it, these two make a good pair. I haven't been this excited about a merger since peanut butter and jelly! Another cool feature is you can challenge others to virtual races over the internet. Sort of like the feature for the Xbox where you can play other users from around the world online.
The technology behind the pair is a wireless sensor and receiver that can be used with the Ipod Nano and a pair of compatible Nike shoes. The sensor "speaks" to your Ipod sending it all of the relevant data from your run. You can expect to hear a lot more about this product soon. They have already enlisted the help of the Electronica group Crystal Method to create a workout mix for the Nike+ system. For a modest $29.99 you can have your own Nike+ Ipod Sports Kit today.
This sports product may very well renew the spirit of exercising to this generation of television watchers and video gamers. The only real form of exercise I get is from jumping up off of the couch after my team scores a touchdown. I predict we will begin to see marketing to the Nike+ Ipod users by health clubs and aerobics instructors that could revolutionize the fitness industry. In closing, this is a great invention and I’m looking forward to seeing the impact this will have on our society.
