Tiles with Fallen Hair--Beautiful or Ugly?

After a good shower lots of hair tends to get left behind on the bathroom floor...giving the bathroom floor a fallen-hair look. Not something that many people would find pretty.

But everything dirty or ugly does not have to be wiped clean, or hidden away. A young designer who is a BA in Ceramics and Glass from University of Art and Design, Helsinki has come up with a novel, innovative new approach.

Her aim is to portray the ugly in an aesthetic manner.

Saara KaatraSaara KaatraSaara Kaatra has created a set of ceramic tiles for bathrooms, decorated with hair. She says that an aesthetic pattern is created from something that is usually regarded as ugly.

With these tiles the entire bathroom floor, something that all of us expect to find spotlessly clean, gets a pattern of fallen hair.

Call it gross, ugly, or weird; we have to agree that it is innovative. And the designer should be lauded for her aesthetic idea.

That's disgusting

I don't know why, but HAIR is one of the grossest things when it isn't where it is supposed to be. To deliberately put it on the tiles is creepy. What's next--a plastic remnant for the toilet? "Oh, how lovely....and it floats."

If you ask me, she didn't succeed in portraying the "ugly in an aesthetic manner"; she portrayed the ugly in an ugly manner and got an "F" in aesthetics.

Ha!

I'm part Finnish so I should be proud of this. I'm not sure if I am, though! However, you're right - it's definitely innovative!

Sorry

To each his own, and Beauty

To each his own, and Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder...I do find the idea innovative.

WTF

Um, who would really want this on their floor? I don't, that's for sure. I think it's really stupid and pointless.
