Giant Ice Pack for your Child's Seat - HotSpotMama Find

Seat ChillerSeat ChillerWhen its hot and humid and hitting record highs, what's the first thing you think of? Finding something to cool you down. A nice body sized ice pack sounds good.

Well dealing with the heat is much worse when you have young kids with you. On a hot summer day, you know you're going to hear whinning. Especially when you put the kids into a car. Its almost always 10 degrees hotter in the car. It would be great for their car seats to be nice and cool when they get into it. My prayers have been answered by a company called Kooler Kidz.

Kooler Kidz has done it. They made a great product that looks like it would make life easier: the Seat Chiller. Essentially, it is a giant ice pack that you place on your child's car seat before your child gets in it. First, you freeze the Seat Chiller in your freezer. Second, you unroll it and put it on your child's seat. Third, remove the Seat Chiller right before you put your child in the seat. Ahh. A nice cool seat.

The Seat Chiller sells for $39.99. It comes in sapphire blue, grape purple and mint green.

It seems like a great product. My problem is the price. The company recommends that you buy two Seat Chillers so one is always ready to go. That's $80. And I have two kids so I would have to buy at least four of them. That's $160. That seems like a pretty high price tag to minimize some whinning. If I still lived in Phoenix, Arizona, I think I would go buy it in a second but I don't think I would be willing to spend the money living in the Northeast (although today I reconsidered it).

If anyone has tried it, please send me some feedback on this product. It seems like a great idea. Just a pricey one.

Seems like keeping cool is on a lot of people's minds. If you would like more ideas on how to stay cool, check out Inventive (But Ill-Advised) Ways to Keep Cool .

My Gut Reaction:

That is a stupid product! When I think of the various "inventions" on the "American Inventor" show that were outright rejected, it amazes how some lame ideas get manufactured....and sold.

Though I have never tried this product, my other gut reaction is that any little kid placed on a cold (and probably "sweaty/wet") spot is NOT going to enjoy it: I hear, "Waaa, waaa, mommy, mommy, mmmmmm.....WAAAAAA!!!!!".

But I'll be open-minded about this and wait to see if anyone who has used it has anything positive to say.

cold seat

There's a woman in AZ. that invented something simmiler to this, I think it's called, The Cold Seat, it's bigger and covers the whole seat, when you put it on it cools down the seat, and any metal objects around it, you cool the seat down, but you take it off before the child is put in the seat, so the child is not sitting in the wetness, if you get one, say you found out about it from a guy in, Buckeye. the site is at,

Seat Chiller is Great Find

I live in Garden Grove (Orange County, CA) and bought the Seat Chiller after seeing it in the OC Regsiter. Not to mention it's about have the size. I did order two, but the company sent me a free carrying case / cooler that fit both chillers and fit on the shelf in my freezer. Very cool! And no, you don't sit the child on it either. It's been so hot this summer that I can't imagine not having it. I will definitely buy more for a couple of friends that are having babies. (Oh, I have the purple version.)

I don't quite get it?

Is this for people who leave their cars parked outside (as opposed to in garages) and have to really cool off their vehicles before leaving home? I assume the seat chiller can only be used straight from your own freezer, before leaving home, right? I personally don't see a need for one, but I suppose it might be useful for people who live in hotter climates.

Seat Chiller

Just a quick comment...this product is brilliant, plus my dughter is sooo happy in the hot climaate we live im. We own 2, and I just gave them to my 1 year old niece in Ohio for a birthday gift and her Mom loves them too. Nothing worse than putting your little one on a hot seat. My daughter now is happy when we run errands and she's in and out of her Seat Chiller cooled seat. Thanks to the mom who invented this....PS...I use it in her stroller too! Anna (OH, I tried 2 other kinds...they did not work)

This gives really stupid parents a better reason to leave their kids in the car to die in 110 degree weather. What a terrible thought, but it happens all the time.

not a HaHa

I agree, It happens 8-10 times a year in the U.S., but I don't see why the seat thing would make it happen more, kids are left in cars because people are so preoccupied with other things on their minds, talking on a phone, thinking of personal problems, or just in a hurry to get out of the heat and into the house, I have an invention I'm trying to get marketed that can possibly stop this from happening.

Its not to leave the kids in

Its not to leave the kids in the cars (sigh), you leave it in the car while you ALL are away. When you come from the store, the cleaners, etc... then you take it off. The car seat will be cool enough for you baby. You, umm, don't leave the kid on it either.
