When your house is too small, you need to be really creative in using your space intelligently. It's not unusual to hear of folks trapped in tiny cramped living spaces to find ingenious ways to use the available space. I have heard of folks trying to use their shower (and their shower rods) as extra closet space and having shelves above every door.
But there comes a time when you realize that rather than trying to squeeze a little more utility, you really should focus instead on finding the means to move to a bigger place.
For me, I would recognize my place was too small if the Double Space Kitchenette was something I would find useful.
Sofa CookTop Combo
The merchant for this product says "The DoubleSpace Kitchenette caters to those with a taste for unique, compact living. People living in crowded cities such as New York can appreciate the value of flexible, efficiently used living space. This roomy easy chair converts easily into a countertop with two electric burners."
The rationale for this products seems to be that "You'll never sit and cook at the same time".
CookTop Version of Sofa
Designers worked to overlap the functions of sitting and cooking to "create a new kind of convertible." They calm fears of the obvious safety hazard by saying "safety features include not being able to turn on the burner while the DoubleSpace is in the chair orientation."
Sofa Version of CookTop This design help "make it easier for people to take up less space, as well as use less energy and raw materials."
I personally am quite proud of my god-given rights as loud, fat and obnoxious American to take as much space as I want.
Would you ever use something like this? I mean, how small does your place have to be to make this make sense?
Hey, get of the hot seat and turn off that sofa!

Submitted on September 9th, 2006 by thinker (not verified)it wouldn't be a bad idea to have 2 of these side by side, yet having the burners of the second sofa on the other side so that the four burners would be centered with a lot of counter space. what about ventilation issues?

Submitted on September 9th, 2006 by Anonymous (not verified)It is people like you who hold your attitude that are holding our nation back from becoming more environmentally friendly. Just because you are american does not justify your "loud, fat and obnoxious American to take as much space as I want" attitude. When your children's lives are ruined through your hedonistic views, I hope you can look them in the eyes and tell them it was worth it to you. Conserving resources and space is the first step toward a better world.

Submitted on September 9th, 2006 by Anonymous (not verified)this would be good for college students who are "not allowed" to have a hot plate in their room. they could simply place this chair under the window, flip it up to cook and down if anyone comes to the door. I would only wonder if you can flip it down while still hot.

Submitted on September 11th, 2006 by Anonymous (not verified)It's not a bad idea for a lot of people who are single and don't cook much. If you are single and in a city it's almost more expensive to eat at home and certainly uses up a lot of time. There are a lot of one room apartments where space is a problem. Plus, it looks really cool. If someone came over and saw that chair they'd think you were the hippest urbanite around.

I want to know if anybody has created by ultimate MCCF design. That's a Looeeze which is, simply, a sofa with a loo in one of the seats.
