Nintendo Wii: Launch Date and Price Announced

Nintendo WiiNintendo WiiAfter months and months of silence, Nintendo finally announced release dates and a price for their next generation console, the Nintendo Wii. On September 14th, Nintendo told the press that its Nintendo Wii would be launching in the United States on November 19th at a price of $249.99. The console will be sold with the five Wii Sports games on one disk, similar to what Nintendo did with Mario on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The console will also come with one wireless Wii remote controller, and one nunchuck controller.

The Wii is aimed at the general public, and is meant to sell to the masses. Games on the system will receive a Teen or Everyone rating from the ESRB. Nintendo states that the “Wii is creating worldwide excitement with its unique control system, an inventive, first-of-its-kind controller whose position can be detected in a 3-D space.”

PLAYSTATION 3PLAYSTATION 3After months and months of silence, I would have thought that Nintendo would have brought a big surprise to the consumers in price tag. For the sheer lack of power in the Nintendo Wii, I feel that the $249.99 price is much too high for what you’re getting. The biggest downside to the Wii console is the 729MHz processor speed. This is a very small amount, especially compared to the 3.2 GHz processor speeds of the Playstation 3 and the XBox 360. This downside will make it much harder for developers to run large programs on the Wii, and will cause games to be downgraded to run on the console.

To me, the Wii seems like a good second console behind either the PS3 or the XBox 360. If you can only afford one, however, I would suggest getting either the PS3 or the XBox 360, since you will get more bang for your buck, even though you’re spending more overall.

Wee, wee--falling behind, Matt?

I read about the Wii in Friday's newspaper. What I like about this site is that I often see about new products here before on the news or in the newspapers. When you introduce the product first, the evening news is more like a "repeat"!

Don't blame Matt

In all fairness to Matt, he had the article ready and we took a long time to release it. Sorry for the delay.

The 729mhz processor speed

The 729mhz processor speed wont really matter. Seriously, how many nintendo games have loading times? If anything itll be an improvement. Besides, where is all the processor power going for the ps3? There is so much gaming potential for the ps3 but its a shame that sony doesnt come out with many good games. If youve been to e3 youll know that the ps3 is just an oversized psp, except without the homebrew. And if anyone has played Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube they should know that nintendo isnt going to downgrade their games, theyre just going to use multiple discs.

did u create the wii???
