1 Million Solar Roofs In 10 Years

If you know anything about solar panels, you are likely to know how much they can lower your electric bill, not to mention help the environment. You also probably know that it takes a lot of money to invest in solar panels and their installation in the first place. For many people, especially low income families, it is this initial cost of going solar that makes it nearly impossible to do. But finally, places like California are making it easier to go solar for everyone.

Within 10 years, California plans to go solar on 1 million roofs in an attempt to fight global warming. It is offering rebates and tax credits to help consumers go along with the idea. It hasn't been an easy ride though.

It has taken years to pass Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), which was signed by Governor Schwarzenegger at a ceremony held at the solar powered CalTrans building in downtown Los Angeles on August 24, 2006. Today California is already in the process of building new homes with solar panels. Click here to see CBS news report on the process.
