Portable Wheel Chair Lifter Wins 2010 Best New Product In Rehab Expo
Every year in Britain an organization of businesses and healthcare professionals focused on rehabilitation products, called Naidex, has an expo of new products and services for persons with disabilities. The winner of the 2010 Naidex New Product of the Year Award was an elegant portable solution for lifting a wheelchair into the trunk of a car. It's called the BackSaver.
I like this product; it's very cool. For one thing, it allows wheelchair users to travel in many cars rather than just the one with the automatic wheelchair lift. And for another thing, it takes about 30 pounds off the lifter's arms, shoulders and back.
The BackSaver is portable and just rolls up for convenience and it rolls out neatly; completely intuitive. First you attach an end rod into the inside back of your trunk, roll out the BackSaver, place the wheelchair on the BackSaver as close as possible to your car, grab the handles, and then walk it into the trunk as you lift, and slide the chair forward. Here you can see the steps for yourself:
Simple is good. My only complaint about this product is the name. Every other item for the back is called a back saver, a backsaver, or a back-saver.... I know that the manufacturer, Mangar International, doesn't have to bother with trademarking the name 'BackSaver,' but there has to be a marketing advantage to giving your product a more distinctive name. Spice it up! (Psst! Search BackSaver!)
You can purchase the BackSaver from Mangar International.
Keeping you posted...
