Lobster Motorcycle? I Can Harley Believe It!
It may not have been the main event (more like a Maine event), but a couple of incredible inedibles ended up stealing the spotlight at a cooking seminar at the Fuzhou Hotel this past Tuesday, August 23rd.
How to explain the intricate yet slightly gruesome conglomeration of five cooked lobster's shells individually discombobulated and then delicately re-assembled into a pair of motorcycles by Taiwanese artist Huang Mingbo? Well, how about stating they're the erstwhile love-children of Dr Zoidberg from Futurama and Beach Blanket Bingo's Eric von Zipper?
Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province in southeast China, doesn't have a lot to be famous for. There's the 1884 Battle of Foochow, in which the Chinese Navy had their poopdecks pounded by the French Navy. More recently there's the “Most Awesome Wall of Air Conditioners” building, details of which can be gleaned here. But we digress.
The cooking art seminar held by the Fuzhou Hotel ranks right up with the French Navy not surrendering and the Fuzhou Dalijiacheng Building not falling down (or flying away), thanks to Huang Mingbo's crustacean creations... and I personally want to thank Huang for giving me the opportunity to use the phrase “crustacean creations” in a sentence. Twice.
Will we see more of Huang Mingbo's unselfish shellfish artistry? Will Huang claw back a few extra yuan by virtue of his newfound Newburgian fame? Will the B-52s re-form and play at Huang's next food seminar appearance? Stay tuned and keep the drawn butter hot, this has been Tom Broke-claw reporting. (via People's Daily Online)
