Easy Way to Password Protect Your Files

Computer Privacy: Password Protection with Files Folder Lock (Version 5.6.0)

I came across a cool looking program today that I feel is worth writing about. The software name "Folder Lock" pretty much sums up its purpose but it has a few more tricks up its sleeve that makes it even more compelling.

You just browse your computer or a specific folder for files you want to password protect, encrypt, scramble or hide and within a few minutes you’re done. Complete drives can be protected if you choose as well as portable media drives such as memory sticks.

This looks like a great tool to keep nosey children and roommates away from your personal data while you are away. Needless to say, this is also a security tool as advertised on the Folder Lock site. After all, if you don’t have the password you can’t get in. Even if your files are stolen it’s useless to the thief without the password. This looks like a very well respected application in the software community and the reviews appear authentic, so I think it’s worth a download.

They offer a free limited version that you use with the option to purchase the full version in the future. Drop your comments here on this if you are using this newer version or even an older one.

This appears to be a decent

This appears to be a decent utility for locking down a file from gently prying eyes, though I have to wonder how effective it really is against a determined individual trying to get through a basic lock or scramble modes. For me I like protecting my files with encryption. In this instance that equates to StompSoft's Digital Vault which gives me the luxury of not only password protection, but the ability to encrypt and hide the data as well. I guess I just have trouble seeing what this software can offer me compared to what I've already got.
