sand

sand and oil would ruin any adhesive, even materials that arent technically adhesive but have adhesive properties due to their charged chemical structures. this seems impractical

uh, excuse me

They had these back in the 80's. And yes, you had to keep your feet perfectly dry or they would fall right off.
