ITALCEMENTI, ALESSI and LPWK Design Studio have partnered up to find a designer who can take their innovative mortar mixture and create a brilliant centerpiece with it to become a mass produced product!

This fairly open-ended contest asks designers to digitally create a detailed centerpiece with their i.design EFFIX mortar concrete in mind. While you are more than welcome to use one of the many sample base centerpiece designs as a diving board into the project, feel free to run wild with your concrete art, as long as it is no heavier than 3.5kg and is no thinner than 1.5cm at any given point. The judges are going to look for food-safe centerpieces that can be used indoors and outside, as well as designs with plenty of beautiful texture, patterns, relief ornaments or other creative visual imagery to make your concrete design truly special.

The cool thing about this free international contest is that the creator of their favorite design is invited to i.lab, an exclusive workshop in Bergamo, Italy to work on optimizing the centerpiece for mass production. The best part is that if everything goes right, your concrete centerpiece design will become a manufactured product and you will get a nice cut of the sales too!

You’ll need to create and send in one to five detailed digital images of your concrete centerpiece to the team by December 12th, 2013, but if you need a little inspiration, here’s an official list of inspired concrete designs to get your creative juices flowing.
