Google is making a strategic push into the educational sector with a series of AI-powered tools aimed at enhancing learning experiences for both educators and students. Unveiled at the ISTE edtech conference on Monday, these updates include over 30 new tools, a specialized version of the Gemini app for education, and expanded access to its collaborative video creation app, Google Vids. The integration of AI in classrooms is part of Google’s broader vision to offer “more engaging and personalized learning experiences.” This comes at a time when educators are grappling with the rapid adoption of AI tools by students, such as ChatGPT, for academic tasks.

Google’s Gemini AI suite is now freely available to all Google Workspace for Education accounts. This suite helps teachers brainstorm ideas, generate lesson plans, and tailor content to individual student needs using AI technology. Over the coming months, educators will also be able to create interactive study guides using the AI research tool, making it easier to blend classroom materials with AI-driven insights.

Moreover, teachers can craft custom versions of the Gemini AI to provide additional support to students who need it.

This allows students to interact with AI chatbots trained specifically on their classroom materials, making these interactions more relevant and meaningful.

The AI-powered video creation tool, Google Vids, is also being made accessible to all Google Workspace for Education users. Teachers can use Google Vids to create instructional videos, while students can leverage the tool for projects like book reports or other assignments. In addition to these tools, Google is rolling out a variety of features to track student progress, view analytics on performance and engagement, and enhance data security.

A new teaching mode in Google Classroom will allow teachers to connect directly with students, sharing content such as videos, articles, and quizzes to the students’ screens. This mode also restricts browsing to specific tabs to keep students focused on learning. These updates represent a significant step forward in integrating AI into educational environments, aiming to support both educators and students in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
