Lexus LFR supercar tested on Angeles Crest

2 Min Read

Lexus’ upcoming flagship sports car, the LFR, has been spotted testing on the iconic Angeles Crest Highway in California. The prototype was seen alongside a Mercedes-AMG GT, suggesting that Lexus is benchmarking its latest creation against one of the industry’s top performers. The LFR, still under camouflage, exhibits proportions and a presence that hint at a significant leap forward for Lexus in terms of design and performance.

Journalist and YouTuber Jonny Lieberman captured footage of the prototype and shared it on Instagram, offering enthusiasts their first glimpse of the highly anticipated coupe. The LFR’s design suggests a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, aligning with earlier reports about its platform and driving dynamics. Lexus plans to offer two variants: a “touring” version aimed at grand touring and daily usability, and a “hardcore” track-focused version for more spirited driving.

Under the hood, the LFR is set to feature an all-new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with a hybrid electric system. Initial figures suggest the combustion engine will generate around 720 horsepower, with an additional 180 horsepower contributed by the hybrid system, culminating in a total output of 900 horsepower.

If accurate, this would make the LFR the most powerful road car Lexus has ever produced. Production of the LFR is scheduled for the third or fourth quarter of 2025, with prices rumored to start at around $230,000 before options. This price tag situates the LFR firmly in supercar territory, both in terms of performance and exclusivity.

As Lexus continues its testing on public roads, it is evident that the company is making a serious push into the high-end sports car market. The LFR could signify a bold new chapter for Lexus, blending cutting-edge hybrid performance with classic rear-wheel-drive dynamics.
