The Stop Killing Games initiative, led by YouTuber Ross Scott, has reached a significant milestone by surpassing 1 million signatures on its petition to the European Commission. The campaign aims to challenge the practice of video game developers delisting and discontinuing games without issuing refunds or preserving the titles as single-player experiences. With the petition now boasting the required million signatures, Ross will have the opportunity to present the initiative to the European Commission and speak at a public hearing in the European Parliament.

This greatly increases the chances of the movement’s core objective – forcing game studios to leave games in a playable state – becoming law in the EU. However, concerns have arisen about the authenticity of some signatures. Ross has received screenshots from sources like 4chan and Discord, hinting at organized efforts to flood the petition with fake signatures.

He addressed these concerns in a video, discouraging such actions and emphasizing the seriousness of government petitions. “I have no idea what’s real now,” Scott admitted, expressing frustration over the situation.

He estimates that there are at least 600,000 to 700,000 legitimate signatures on the EU petition but fears that a botnet might have inflated the numbers considerably. Despite these challenges, Scott remains determined to push forward until the end of July, ensuring the petition receives all possible support. He encourages supporters to continue signing the UK petition, which has already crossed the necessary 100,000 signatures, mandating Parliamentary consideration.

The Stop Killing Games initiative has garnered significant attention and interest, demonstrating substantial public concern about the issue of violence in video games. As the campaign approaches its final deadline, the future of the petitions remains uncertain, but Scott is committed to seeing the process through to the end.
